Some houses try to hide the fact
That children shelter there,
Ours boasts it quite openly,
The signs are everywhere.
For smears on the windows,
Little smudges on the doors,
I should apologize I guess,
For toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children,
And we played and laughed and read,
And if the doorbell doesn't shine,
Their eyes will shine instead.
For when at times I am forced to choose,
The one job or the other,
I'd like to cook, and clean, and scrub,
But first I'll be a MOTHER.

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Tesha. :)
DeleteMany blessings!
There will be lots of time to cook and clean once the little ones are grown and gone! I wish I had cherished more time with mine before they were grown up. Beautiful poem!
ReplyDeleteSo true, Monica...the cleaning and cooking can wait. Glad you stopped by. :)
DeleteAMEN!!! Such a beautiful poem and so true, at least for me... I can't do it all, I can't be the perfectionest I once was and a good mom...I let go of perfectness over 18 years ago, and I'm not sorry I did. Thanks Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI've had to give up my perfectionest side too, Jane. There will be time for all that when my nest is empty. Thanks for sharing! :)
DeleteOh yes, first a mother. I never understood the ones who told me to enjoy the years, it goes quickly. But it does! Shining eyes are worth leaving the cooking and cleaning for.
ReplyDeleteLove your last line, Pam. Thanks so much for stopping by. :)
