My 10 year old son volunteered to do this post. :)
Since my brother's post about starting our chicken-selling business we have hatched more baby chicks - 3 to be exact.
And we have our first customer (and possibly a second one), who bought 3 chickens from our first flock. We had a hard time deciding which ones to sell because we loved all of them. But when our 2nd flock hatched, it was a little easier to sell the older ones since we had 3 more to take their place. :)
Here is a photo of our first flock on bug patrol in Mom's flower garden...
And here are some photos of our second flock..
Mom has claimed this one for herself and named her Gwynevere.
And as of last night, one of our hens is in the hatching coop setting on another clutch of eggs. Hopefully we'll have another flock of babies in 3 weeks.
We have decided that even if we don't have a booming business, it sure is fun and educational to watch the baby chicks hatch and grow. :)

Congratulations on the sale of your first 3 chicks! They are fun to watch, and they grow so fast too.:-)
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Anne♥
Thanks for reading, Miss Anne. :)
DeleteIf you don't sell all the chickens, Asher, you can always sell all the eggs! :) Good job!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea, Miss JES. Thank you. :)
DeleteWhat gorgeous chicks! Thanks for the post Asher, well written!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miss Sarah. :)
DeleteAsher,
ReplyDeleteWhat an inspiration your small chicken venture is to our family! The 25 hen chicks we purchased in May have turned out to be 23 hen chicks and two roosters. While we'll be giving away or selling one of the roosters, we'll keep one in the hopes of also raising some chicks of our own.
Blessings to you as you care for and tend your flock!
~Mrs. Seifert (known to your mom as Lisa)
Thanks for your encouragement, Mrs. Seifert. :)

Great post Asher! Reading about your chicks brought back many memories of our first flock in South Africa. Is has encouraged me to start a new flock here in England. Pity we don't live close enough to buy some of your precious chicks ;o)
ReplyDeleteChickens are wonderful and interesting creatures. I can't think of a better business to be involved in! Good luck :o)
Thank you, Miss Shirley. :)
DeleteGreat report Asher! What breed of chickens do you have? We love chickens around here. Of our 5 silkies that we got in February (Fluffy, Muffy, Buffy, Splash, and Nellie) only Nellie turned out to be a rooster. I ran out of creativity for renaming her/him, so we just call him Nel. :) Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Jane,
DeleteWe have Aracaunas, Leghorns, Black Australorpes, Partridge Rocks, Orpingtons, and Black Stars.
We would love to have Silkies. They are pretty birds. :)
