Taking the Time

Yesterday while I was making a skirt for Naomi  (who is four), she decided to try her hand at sewing on a button. Natalie (who is seven) was already sitting next to me busily sewing buttons on scraps of material.

As I was sewing, I would glance over at Naomi..and watch her struggling to get the needle through the button holes. In my rush to finish making her skirt, I confess that I didn't want to take the time to help her. But the Lord immediately convicted me of this, and I realized - once again - that this is my  "job"  It's the very reason the Lord gave me my children in the first place: to teach them and train them.  And what a wonderful memory making moment : teaching my little girl a new homemaking skill!

I quickly got up from my sewing machine and went to Naomi's side and helped her. She caught on right away and asked to do more sewing this morning.  :)  So, this morning is going to be a sew-and-sew morning for me and my girls...with no rushing, no hurrying.....just lots of fun and learning...and memory making.  :)

  1. Thank you for sharing this. I have the personality that it's easier for me to do it than have my children help me. It's an area I struggle in for sure! Thank you for the encouragement!

  2. What a blessing to be able to stop and take that time with your daughters and to impart to them a wonderful home-making skill. The many sweet memories they will have to cherish as they get older. :)

You sound like a woman would would love Above Rubies Ministry, they put out a FREE magazine as well. Here is a link to their website. www.aboverubies.org I just signed my Mom up for it too. I got to see Nancy Campbell at a Family Week conference in Kentucky last spring and she was delightful and full of wisdom. A true gem. Bless God that He never gives up on us!

  3. What a perfect morning with your daughters. I remember when my mom so patiently taught me to sew. I am thankful to this day she did. No I am not a amazing sewer but I do have the basic skills and I am trying now as a adult woman to sew my own clothes. I have done more craft sewing and quilting and I love it. It is such a gift from a mother to take the time to teach her. It is one of the best ways to love on your daughter. Good job mama. [o=

  4. What a beautiful mother you are. Mornings like these are what memories are made from. Soon she'll be telling her daughter how her mommy taught her to sew.
