A New Season

My children love to hear stories about when they were babies.  Yesterday was no exception.

As we cleared the lunch dishes from the table, I told the stories that they've heard many times before. And as I recalled the memories of those days, I was reminded  - once again - of the fact that my "baby days" are over.

No more feeling the movement of a new life inside of me.

No more snuggling with a newborn.

No more dozing on the sofa with a baby sleeping on my chest.

No more of the host of many other wonderful experiences that come from having a baby in my home.

I miss those days with my babies. But I do not miss the days of being a young mother with virtually no Titus 2 women in my life to be a mentor to me. I had so many questions. And so many times, I needed the listening ear of an older, godly lady, and so many times  I was in desperate need of an encouraging word.

So I find myself  in a new season of life now. And  the Lord has impressed upon me to be the  Titus 2 woman that I didn't have.  Which is the sole purpose of this blog.

With (almost) 30 years of marriage, 7 earthly children, and 3 granchildren (our 4th grandbaby is due this summer - yippee!), I might have a few words of encouragement for young mothers.  ;)

Not that I am anything in and of myself. But I pray that the Lord will use me however He sees fit in this area...whether the encouragement comes through this blog, or in person.

What about you, friends? What has the Lord been nudging you to do for Him?  I'd love to hear  from you!

"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."  Eccl. 3:1

Have a blessed day!

Natty's First Quilt

For Natty's 8th birthday in November, her Sunday school teacher gave her a gift that was perfect for a budding seamstress : a package of beautiful quilting material.

Natty was so excited and could hardly wait to get started. She decided  to make a quilt for her doll.  :)

So she started cutting the squares (with a little help from Mom)....

Then she sewed the squares together....

Next, she measured the batting to the front and back of the quilt....

After trimming the batting, she sewed the borders....

And finally, a quilting stitch along the seams for the finishing touch....

 The back of the quilt.....

And the front....

                                            It turned out beautifully!!

And last but certainly not least, I'm including a photo of Mimi, who, in the midst of all the quilting, just had to take a turn on Natty's sewing machine.  And she did really well!  :)

We had so much fun together. And we made memories. Memories that will hopefully last a lifetime.
Memories that will be recalled every time Natty looks at her quilt.  :)

"..she.. works willingly with her hands."  Proverbs 31:13

Have a blessed day,  friends!

Homemade Hair Jewelry

I love all the hair jewelry that I'm seeing online these days. But to buy for me and my girls could be a little pricey.

So instead of spending my hubby's hard-earned money, I decided to try to make some hair jewelry myself.

I started with some regular hair pins......

Then, I bought some "blingy" buttons at Wal Mart.....

Finally, I hot-glued the buttons to tops of the hair pins.......and here's how they turned out.....
Not bad for the penny-pinching version.  :)

I also made some for my girls with these buttons (also from Wal Mart).....

And they turned out like this....

Next on my list: homemade hair sticks.  :)

"Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will.
But the very hairs of your head  are all numbered.
Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." - Matthew 10: 29-31

Have a blessed day,

Ten Ways To Raise A Fool in 2012

I am sharing the following blog post (with permission) from Rhonda @ www.walkingwithsarah.com.

Ten Ways to a Raise a Fool in 2012

  1. Teach your child God does not exist and therefore no moral absolutes exist.  Whatever your child feels like doing is the right choice.
  2. Spend as little time as possible with your child.
  3. Raise your child to believe the chief aim in life is to please himself so give him anything he wants.
  4. Do not teach your child to read.
  5. Do not discipline your child in any way so as not to hurt his/her psyche.  Never make your child do anything, especially work.
  6. Let your child get his worldview from any source other than the Bible.
  7. Since moral absolutes do not exist(see #1), set no standards in your home.
  8. Allow all influences into the life of your child--he has to learn to sink or swim.
  9. Show no affection or praise.
  10. Last, but not least, set an example by living your life only to please yourself.

Dear friends, I know these words are sharp, but how often do we fall prey to the lies above?  The current thinking in our culture would not have a problem with most of this list, as a matter of fact, most of it would be acceptable or even encouraged.  But if we're going to raise a generation of young people who live and act differently than fools, we've got to think differently.  So my real advice to you is thisDo the opposite of the list you see above!

"The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."                Psalm 14:1

"...But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother."       Proverbs 29:15

May we all purpose to raise godly children in the coming year!

Have a blessed day,

Looking Back and Looking Ahead

It's hard to believe that 2012 is almost here.

Looking back on 2011 is stressful for me.  My hubby and I agree that it has been one of the most difficult years we've had to endure...for many reasons.

For one, it was our first year without my beloved father-in-law.  He went home to be with the Lord - suddenly and unexpectedly - on Monday, December 27th, 2010. ( You can read my first post about him here.)

I had no idea how hard the adjustment would be. But I am so thankful for the hope of seeing him again.  So instead of looking back, I want to look forward; forward to a new year, and hopefully one that's a little easier.

Many people make New Year's resolutions. I don't. I just try to get by one day at a time, with the Lord's help. I do have goals for the new year.  I want...

....to spend more time in the Word.  How can I teach the Scriptures to my children if I don't know them myself?  (Deuteronomy 6:7)

....to be a more godly wife.  I want to be a "crown" to my husband, and not "rottenness in his bones" (Proverbs 12:4).

.... to spend more time with my children. You might say, " But you're home  all day with your children!"  True.  But I long for more time with them..playing games, reading books, sharing Scripture, and just talking together.  I want to leave a godly legacy for my children. (Proverbs 31:28)

What about you? What are your goals or plans for the New Year? I'd love to hear from you.

Have a blessed day,
